College Bound Conservatory
Hyde Park Suzuki Institute (HPSI)
Preparing the next generation of musicians for conservatory, college, and beyond!
Program Overview
The College Bound Conservatory Program at HPSI is a comprehensive, high-level training and mentorship program designed for serious music students who are preparing to pursue music at the collegiate or conservatory level.
This program goes beyond traditional private instruction by combining artistic development, strategic college preparation, and personalized mentorship to guide students and families through every stage of the journey; from skill-building to scholarship offers and successful transition into college life.
HPSI is committed to ensuring that talented students, especially those from underrepresented communities, have access to the tools, guidance, and opportunities needed to succeed at the highest levels.
Who This Program is For
– Middle and high school students (typically grades 7-12, or ages 13-18)
– Students preparing for music major auditions or conservatory applications
– Families seeking structured guidance through the college admissions and scholarship process
– Dedicated musicians ready for a pre-professional level of training and accountability
Program Components
Weekly Private Lessons
Students receive individualized instruction focused on technical mastery, tone development, musical expression, stylistic understanding, long-term artistic growth, and discipline. Lessons are tailored to each student’s goals, instrument, and target schools, as well as tailoring audition repertoire to audition requirements.
Performance Class
Students participate in regular performance classes to build confidence and stage presence, and practice audition repertoire in a supportive environment. Students will develop critical listening skills from observing their peers, as well as giving and receiving feedback to other students. This allows us to simulate real audition and competition experiences
College Counseling & Planning
Families receive step-by-step guidance through the college process, including school selection (conservatories, universities, and music programs), information and assistance with application timelines and fulfilling all requirements, as well as putting together detailed essays, resumes, and artistic portfolios that help your student stand out! We want to make it clear that your student and family are not alone in this process
Audition & Competition Preparation
HPSI can host mock auditions with detailed feedback, teach repertoire refinement, memorization strategies, audition etiquette, and communication skills. We also put a focus on competition readiness and performance psychology, so that students can present themselves with confidence and professionalism.
College Scholarship Strategy
HPSI supports families in maximizing financial opportunities through scholarship identification and application guidance, strategic positioning of the student’s musical profile, understanding and explaining financial aid packages, and performing advocacy and communication with institutions when appropriate.
First-Year College Support
Our commitment does not end at acceptance. Students receive continued support during their first year of college, including transition coaching, check-ins, guidance on navigating studio expectations and coursework, as well as mentorship to help students stay grounded, organized, and successful.
What Makes This Program Unique
HSPI has a holistic approach to learning – we combine musical excellence with strategic planning. We also partner with parents in the entire pre-college process with our family-centered model. Our mission is equity-driven, we want to expand access to high-level music pathways through real-world preparation: our students gain the skills needed to thrive beyond auditions
Program Outcomes
Students in the College Bound Conservatory Program will develop a polished and competitive audition portfolio, gain acceptance into strong music programs and conservatories, secure scholarships and financial support, and enter college with confidence, clarity, and preparation
