Suzuki Violin Program
Group Class
Group classes are where the magic happens! In addition to private lessons, all Suzuki students participate in weekly group classes — a core element of the Suzuki philosophy that emphasizes learning with joy, collaboration, and community.
Group classes provide an essential space for students to:
-
Reinforce and review repertoire in a supportive environment
-
Develop listening and ensemble skills
-
Gain confidence by playing with and for peers
-
Learn musical games, theory, and technique through play
-
Celebrate milestones and progress together
Our group classes are leveled by experience and age and are included as part of our full Suzuki program. Parents are encouraged to observe and participate where appropriate — continuing the partnership between teacher, student, and family.
Whether your child is just starting out or advancing through the Suzuki books, group class brings energy, structure, and connection to the learning journey.
Private Lessons
At the Hyde Park Suzuki Institute, we offer beginners, semi-private violin instruction rooted in the world-renowned Suzuki Method — a nurturing, relationship-based approach to music learning that begins as early as age 3.
Each child is paired with a dedicated teacher who works closely with both the student and parent to build a strong musical foundation. Private lessons are tailored to each student’s pace, and include technical skill-building, tone development, listening, and performance readiness.
What sets Suzuki private lessons apart?
-
Parent involvement: You learn alongside your child and become their home practice partner.
-
Listening and repetition: Children learn to play before they learn to read music — just like a language.
-
Whole-child development: We focus not just on notes and technique, but on character, confidence, and joy.
All violin students also participate in weekly group classes, which offer ensemble skills, community building, and joyful music-making with peers.
We welcome beginners, transfer students, and families of all backgrounds.

Parent Class & Your Role as the Home Teacher
Parents are the heart of a child’s musical journey. The Suzuki Method is built on a powerful triangle: teacher, student, and parent — all working together to support the development of both musical skill and character.
That’s why every new family begins with a Parent Class before or alongside their child’s private lessons. In this class, parents learn:
-
The fundamentals of the Suzuki philosophy
-
How to set up a successful home practice routine
-
How to observe, encourage, and guide your child with confidence
-
What to expect in lessons and group class
-
Strategies to stay calm, consistent, and connected
You don’t need to be a musician yourself to support your child — just willing to show up, listen, and learn alongside them. As your child’s “home teacher,” you’ll be their practice partner, cheerleader, and steady guide. This active involvement builds trust, discipline, and deepens your bond — both musically and emotionally.
Your presence matters. Your involvement is the method.
And we’re here to support you every step of the way. Attend a FREE Demo and Parent Q&A.
Testimonial – Mingshi Xia
“My son, Mingshi, started taking violin lessons right before he turned 5. After taking lessons from his first teacher for about a year, he began learning with Ms. Lucinda, and continues to do so today. He just turned 14 last week. We have been more than happy to have Ms. Lucinda as Mingshi’s violin teacher. Ms. Lucinda has some magic tricks that keep young kids interested in playing the violin, help them stay focused during lessons, and encourage them to practice at home. She has a very systematic approach to teaching violin techniques to kids and assigns practice exercises to help them master what they learned. Ms. Lucinda always encourages Mingshi to participate in local competitions and helps him prepare for them, which often becomes a big boost to Mingshi’s violin practice and progress. Over time, he has received several awards in the Confucius, SAM, and Sejong competitions.”
